I was first tarred with the epithet “sex nerd” during the 2004 presidential election.

I became so passionately invested in the outcome that all my friends had to do was say “contraception” or “sex education” and I was off on a long rant about sexual health.

After the Vice Presidential debate (which triggered a particularly vehement tirade on the subject of domestic HIV) my friend Andrew said, “You know what you are, Emily? You’re a sex nerd. Only a nerd gets that interested in details; I’m nerdy about embodied cognition, but you’re nerdy about sex.”

He was completely right. Everything about sex lights my fire. Our evolutionary antecedents, social justice issues, expanding women’s sexual potential… just… everything!

So here I am, still nerding it out, still passionately raging against boring sex, bad sex science, destructive sex policies, and endless other aspects of sex in modern society.

I know a world of sexual utopia exists. I know what it looks like. I want to go there. I want to tell you all about it.

So that’s what this is blog for. Thanks for reading.
